Intense promotion of major sports events taking place on the island

The Mayor, Aurelio Joaquin Gonzalez, said that during his participation in the thirty-second edition of International Tourism Fair (Fitur) 2012, Cozumel opened its doors to sports tourism, promoting events like the Ironman, Golf Tournament celebrities, diving, etc. in an important agreement of collaboration with the Atlético Madrid club, which participates in Football League BBVA of Spain, considered the best in the world.

The Municipality emphasized that during the fair, participants from different countries in Europe and other continents were very interested in visiting Cozumel to attend and even participate in big events like the Ironman, Ironman 70.3, the Golf Tournament of celebrity and the Middle Peace Marathon to be held in July and the fishing tournament that takes place on the island.

Similarly, the President Aurelio Joaquin was very pleased to have befriended Geraldo Francisco dos Santos Xavier, better known as Zizinho, former Brazilian footballer who highlighted with Mexican clubs like the Americas and Monterrey in the early 80's, who is the father of Mexican Giovani Dos Santos and Jonathan who play in European football.

He said that Zizinho promised to visit the island during the summer with his wife, who is of Mexican origin, with the potential for national teams can come too, which would help promote the destination.

On the other hand, the mayor said that the signing of an agreement with Enrique Cerezo, President of Athletic Madrid, is a serious commitment, as well as the intention of opening a school with the franchise, will work with the foundation of the European team to promote programs similar to those made in Spain, supporting the most deprived areas, which are focused on helping children through sports.

In this regard, the club President will personally come to Cozumel, to verify what the community needs and be able to help more effectively.

Joaquin Gonzalez added that another major achievement is that the trademark "Cozumel" will be promoted, so that would put the name of the island at the Vicente Calderon, specifically in advertising when the team makes his lectures release after each meeting.
He said to wait out the new team's uniform to see how you can reach an agreement and add the name of Cozumel.

Finally, the mayor reiterated that in addition to promoting social cohesion, and to acquire a discipline, sport is very useful to promote the destination, so reiterated that it slowed down to make tourism a major sports niche, so that translates into benefits for the community.
